Fast on-demand curing, cost and energy savings, environmentally friendly are just a few of the many benefits to using light-curable materials (LCMs) in the manufacturing process. But that process could come with some headaches if good process control is not in place.
Here are 5 factors you need to think through prior to selecting an LCM for your manufacturing process:
- Know your substrate. What surface will the LCM adhere to? Does it require a secondary cure? Would its color affect your application?
- Set up a light-cure process. What size area will you need to cure? What intensity light is required? Do you have the right equipment?
- Understand the effects of under- and over-curing. Will your process be impacted by an insufficient or excessive amount of light-curing exposure? If so, to what extent?
- Choose the right dispensing system. Is your dispensing system compatible with the viscosity of the LCM? Did you put the application area into consideration?
- Properly store and dispose of your materials. Do you need to keep your LCM in a temperature controlled room? Can it tolerate low/ high temperatures? Is the LCM’s shelf life six months? One year? Know how to correctly maintain your materials and discard them to ensure environmental and worker safety.
