Reduced environmental impact and energy conservation are core pillars of the DYMAX mission. Over the last 30 years, DYMAX light-curable materials and curing equipment have become the industry standard for fast, environmentally conscious assembly. DYMAX products are readily replacing technologies that contain hazardous ingredients, produce waste, or require higher amounts of energy to process.
DYMAX understands that safe ecologically friendly products benefit our customers, the environment, and us. We have created materials with attributes that lower products costs, life-cycle costs, and ecological impact. These attributes include:
- Solvent-free materials
- Halogen-free materials
- RoHS compliance
- REACH - no substance of very high concern (SVHC)
- Eco-friendly, one-component materials
DYMAX Eco underlines the DYMAX commitment to the environment. We are providing the following information for Environmental Health and Safety officers, government officials, and engineers to assist in making informed decisions when comparing assembly processes.
Solvent-Free Materials DYMAX light-curable materials are 100% solids and contain no harmful solvents. Many available technologies use solvent carriers that are harmful to humans and/or the environment. DYMAX has stayed ahead of VOC regulations that have become significantly more stringent and demand that manufacturers eliminate solvents.
Halogen-Free Materials An independent laboratory has documented that DYMAX Halogen-Free electronic materials, conformal coatings, and encapsulants meet or exceed standards set forth in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61249-2-21. The IEC international directive defines Halogen-Free as <900 ppm for chlorine, <900 ppm for bromine and <1500 ppm total level of both combined. The current test method used for certification is BS EN 14582:2007

RoHS Compliance All DYMAX UV/visible light-curable products are compliant with the RoHS directives 2002/95/EC and 2003/11/EC and do not contain restricted substances, ensuring global availability.

REACH DYMAX endorses the outcome of the REACH program. We are pleased to report that we have registered all affected substances used at DYMAX with the centralized database maintained by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki.
DYMAX preparations contain no substances of very high concern (SVHC) as reported on the ECHA candidate list dated January 2009.

Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA)
Dymax adhesives, coatings, and sealants do not contain PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid). PFOA is used by companies to make fluoropolymers for use in coatings, non-stick cookware, and all weather clothing. There is a concern at the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) because scientists are finding levels of PFOA in many people throughout the world. PFOA is a man-made chemical and does not occur naturally in the environment. It is very persistent in the environment.

DEHP and Other Phthalates
Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) is a plasticizer added to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to make the normally rigid plastic more flexible. Many companies, especially those in the medical device industry, are requiring suppliers to inform them of DEHP or other phthalate use. The FDA issued a health warning advising the public that DEHP could leech out of PVC and pose a health risk in certain high risk groups. Specifically, there are concerns pertaining to the effects on the development of the male reproductive system. More information is available from the FDA website.

Perfluorooctane Sulfonates (PFOS)
Dymax is pleased to announce that we do not intentionally add perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS) to any of our adhesives, coatings or sealants. Perfluorooctane Sulfonates are highly fluorinated chemical compounds that are persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT). PFOS and related compounds are commonly used in the textile, carpet, and paper industries because they provide grease, oil, and water resistance. More information about the hazards associated with PFOS can be found in the following document http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/23/18/2382880.pdf.

Natural Rubber Latex
Dymax is pleased to inform you that we do not intentionally add or use natural rubber latex or dry natural rubber in any of our UV/visible light-curing adhesives, coatings, and activator curing metal bonding adhesives.

One-Component Materials DYMAX one-component, light-curable, acrylated urethanes offer many processing advantages typically attributed to speed and reliability, such as fast cure, reliable/consistent viscosity, room temperature storage, application and cure, and long shelf life. In addition, one-component products eliminate waste from extensive purge cycles, off-ratio mixing, and static mixing tips.
